Fascists Aren't Allowed To Enjoy The World Cup

You don't get to delight in a joyful worldwide sporting event that rejects your shithead politics

Fascists Aren't Allowed To Enjoy The World Cup

For the chinless chuds whose souls have been tainted by a lifetime of online black-pilling, there's nothing that can’t be converted into fascist propaganda, even a global sporting event functioning as a repudiation of their politics, of their worldview, of their hope for a future that is more solitary, poorer, nastier, more brutish.

The chuds who run the Trump regime’s social media accounts over these past couple weeks have watched the world – and their fellow Americans – celebrate a thrilling World Cup with its upsets and historic superstar performances and the unbridled displays of joy that come with those performances, and they wanted in on the action. So they took to the Department of Homeland Security account on the fascism/CSAM platform formerly known as Twitter and tried their damndest to turn the early success of the U.S. men’s World Cup team into propaganda for their monstrous blood-and-soil cause and a win for their L-taking president.

The picture used by the Department of Homeland Security depicts the following: American player Chris Richards, a biracial young man who frequently speaks out about civil rights and has tattoos of civil rights leaders, including Martin Luther King, Jr.; Sergiño Dest, who was born in the Netherlands to a Surinamese-American father and a Dutch mother, and who holds dual U.S.-Dutch citizenship; and Fola Balogun, who was born to his vacationing parents in New York and was raised in the UK.

A bunch of American World Cup players, in fact, are on the team thanks to birthright citizenship, which the regime and its allies on the Supreme Court have tried to extinguish in their push to make the country whiter and more exclusionary. This team is a direct byproduct of the foundational constitutional concept the American right wing has sought to destroy. This team could not exist in the hideous world that resides in the right wing's overactive imagination.

Our soil. It is a loaded term that serves both as a wink and a nod to those in the know – those familiar with the gory details of online nazi glorification made popular in formerly dark corners of the internet – and an initiation for those who might be fascism-curious. The men who posted this to an official federal government social account know all too well that fascism has an inherent obsession with soil, for it is the soil that absorbed the blood of their forefathers as they beat back the savage natives or the savage invaders, it is the sweat of their ancestors that dripped into the soil as they built a glorious civilization for the superior race, the one they’re trying to resurrect one obscene social media post at a time on a website owned by a trillionaire promoting pogroms the world over in advancing the fascist cause.

That’s the narrative anyway. That’s what the fascist must believe – that the soil is theirs, made sacred by the men who came before them – if their cause is to be right and true. Never mind that not a single one of these feckless fascist chuds has ever worked the soil for a minute of their wasted lives. Never mind that they would never use their baby-soft hands to pick up a weapon and fight for their people, whatever that might mean to them. The soil belongs to them. Goebbels6969420 said so in their favorite forum.

The history of blood-and-soil politics is long and sordid and lives in the heart of every fascist movement in history. The edgelords who operate the Trump regime's social media accounts learned this history in bits and pieces on the internet. It made mom and dad upset so they ran with it; it became the foundation of their personalities, and now – empowered by a chronically online regime – they get to spread their sickness to everyone.

Race Science, Slavery, And The Unreality Of White Supremacy
The unreality that justifies white supremacy has shape shifted

To offer an idea of what blood-and-soil politics looks like: R. Walter Darré and Heinrich Himmler were among the first German public figures to widely promote the idea of linking the German people – those who did not "breed" with Jewish people – to the land on which they were born and raised. Darré in 1930 published a book, A New Nobility of Blood and Soil, that sought to protect German agriculture from capitalists by creating small agricultural holdings and making those holdings hereditary. Darré believed this would root the German peasantry to the land.

There was, however, a catch: German farmers, according to Darré, should inherit the farm if – and only if – they and their wives and children passed a eugenics test. They would need to prove their pure Aryan blood if they were to reap the benefits of this blood-and-soil economics program. The soil, Darré said, needed to belong to the deserving, and kept far away from the foreign hoards, chief among them Jews.

There is deep malovolence in the imagined story of blood and soil. It is a way of perceiving that world that is exclusionary and bigoted and violent. There is only one way to claim the soil as yours, after all.

No Joy For The Fascist

The Trump regime, as it spirals into irrelevance, guided by a failed interior decorator who sold himself as the master architect of a thousand-year fascist reich, is flailing in every way. They are getting the shit kicked out of them by the courts, they are stopping their pursuit of a nationwide network of concentration camps for people they hate, and they are getting dunked on daily by Iranian leadership that now, incredibly, has the support of the global south.

Amid this flailing they have tried (and failed) to co-opt something antithetical to their worldview: A multiracial, multicultural American soccer team rallying support from diverse communities across the United States in a run for the unthinkable – a World Cup title. See this for what it is: Desperation to remain relevant as the country prepares to move on from these disgusting men and their disgusting politics informed by nothing beyond their own prejudices and their desire for a daddy to tell them how to live

Really easy for this team to be good vibes if you know the stories behind each of these players and realize that shitposting from some MAGA intern named Scrotus Maximus doesn't change those stories

The regime is trying (and failing) to use the U.S. men’s team as a prop to promote and advance their blood-and-soil vision. It’s important, I think, to say so without hesitation or apology. There’s no other way to interpret this. We see your idiotic winking and nodding, your pulsating bad faith, and we say no, you are not allowed to be happy about any of this, you don’t have permission to join the international celebration that is the World Cup after running on the promise of ethnic cleansing and genocide.

More than a few folks on Bluesky – both in public and in private messages – told me last week about their struggles with engaging in the joy that comes with the World Cup – especially one in which their team (the US) was not sucking for once. As difficult as it might be to celebrate a team that's being co-opted by our fascist rulers, being joyful and spreading that good will can – and should – be seen as defiance. You're saying no, you can't have this team that would not exist if you had your way. This is my team, our team, and you're not part of it. It's a small act of defiance, but an act of defiance nonetheless. Think of it as establishing the run against these chuds.

"There’s no indecency in finding joy where it still exists," as one Bluesky replier said. "If anything, it’s dereliction of duty not to. We all keenly know what feels terrible. We’d all love to know what doesn’t."

Fascists are never truly happy about anything, and they’re not allowed to pretend to be happy about the U.S. men’s soccer team having a good first couple weeks of the World Cup. I’m sorry but those are the rules. The fascist brand is sadness, misery, self loathing projected outward into immense human suffering. Stick with your brand and live with that sadness, that hole within you. Let it eat you alive. Let it gnaw at your soul until there’s nothing left.

There is, of course, an alternative: Fix your hearts. Then you can root for the U.S. men's team.
