BFT Podcast: Centrism As Fuel For Fascism
Denny Carter talks about the lie of centrism and the unreality of January 6
It's notable, I think, that when likely Democratic Party backers were asked what they would like the party to do in the coming years, majorities said they'd boot the party toward the left.
It's hardly a surprise considering left positions – on the economy especially – poll outstandingly well. It's why, as you may have noticed, every progressive ballot measure passes by wide margins, even in deep red states. Because people like the government to help make life a little easier. Sixty-five percent of Americans support universal healthcare, or "being able to go to the doctor sometimes without losing your home." Only 19 percent oppose universal healthcare while 16 percent are idiots who say they have no opinion on the matter.
The way universal healthcare is covered in for-profit media outlets, one would think the American public was 75-25 against it. Obviously this is intentional. So it goes.
In The New York Times poll released this week – the one serving as a stick of dynamite shoved into the fragile (if furious) Democratic coalition – respondents wanted the party to stake out left positions more often when they were asked about their personal preference for the party's direction in 2026 and 2028. It was when they were asked to play respectable cable news pundit that they supported the party shifting toward "the center," also known as the right.

That, I think, is notable. Playing pundit might mean a potential Democratic Party backer is wondering how the party might appeal to their racist-ass uncle who wonders aloud why he's not allowed to use slurs. Maybe they're wondering how Dems can lure their neighbor who fully believes Joe Biden is an agent of Satan, or that Hillary Clinton puts a splash of baby blood in her morning coffee. That's a road to nowhere. Ask David Byrne if you don't believe me, a top-five BFT blogger.
On today's Bad Faith Times podcast – available below only to BFT supporters – I talked about the NYT poll, the mystery of centrism, how centrists fuel fascism, and the unreality that led to the January 6 insurrectionist slush fund. Check out last week's BFT pod here.
