Holding Elon Musk Accountable Is A Matter Of National Survival

In 2009, with full control of Washington, Democrats – in all their tepid wisdom – decided not to hold George W. Bush administration officials accountable for their many, many crimes before and during the Iraq war.

In 2021, after Donald Trump had tried and failed to overthrow the U.S. government by force, Democrats decided not to use the full force of government to make Trump and his circle pay for their crimes against the republic (Republican operative Merrick Garland and Jack Smith were mere window dressing). They fucked around and found out in the worst possible way.

Now we're in authoritarian free fall because Democrats chose not to pursue accountability for the criminals who have run our government. An insurrectionist is sitting at the head of the executive branch because of Democrats' choices over the past 20 years. When we stop this free fall – and we will, no matter what the doomers say – Democrats have to legally pursue everyone involved in the Trump 2.0 crime spree, including, of course, Elon Musk. There is no second option, no backing away this time.

Musk, as you may have heard, is scurrying away from the Trump regime, taking Stephen Miller's wife with him. After getting his ass walloped in April's Wisconsin Supreme Court election and watching as cities and towns across the world refuse to do business with his toxic companies, Musk is stepping down from his role as head of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, which can be best understood as a hostile foreign entity that has hacked and stolen invaluable information from the American government. DOGE in many ways is history's most successful enemy of the United States. No entity has hurt the country with such efficiency. I guess that makes sense.

Elected Democrats cannot move on even if Musk indeed stays out of politics and rededicates his life to making exploding electric cars and exploding rockets and other machines capable of exploding in very public and embarrassing ways. They have no choice, whenever they can break Trump's hold of the national consciousness, but to dedicate any amount of political capital to ensure Musk pays a steep price for the horrors he has wrought over these past four nightmarish months. It is a matter of national survival. No republic can survive such wanton corruption without a reckoning.

With all the casual cruelty of a psychopath, Musk directed his nihilist broccoli-cut DOGE foot soldiers to eviscerate funding for the neediest people on earth, human beings who will die in enormous numbers because Musk fed USAID into a woodchipper while bragging about it on his fascist social media platform. Estimates vary, but the DOGE-directed destruction of international aid could mean as many as 4 million people will die of AIDS, malaria, and hunger. Read about parents in impoverished parts of Africa who have had to watch as their children – born with AIDS – become sicker and sicker as their medication becomes unavailable. This is Musk's fault. That pain and suffering was his goal, and he laughed and carried on like a fucking clown while he delivered it. He can never be forgiven and his misdeeds can never be forgotten. There is no moving on for the US without addressing the Musk problem.

As Trump said: "This is what Elon wanted."

Musk's dismantling of the Social Security Administration – the effects of which we have not even begun to feel – could lead to upwards of 37,000 deaths from delayed disability benefits, based on backlog mortality estimates. His shredding of the Veterans Administration will surely lead to unnecessary deaths too. Democrats should dedicate unlimited money and resources to ensuring every American voter knows about the fatal government cuts Musk and his DOGE boys have made in 2025. Everyone needs to know that this death and suffering did not happen by accident, but on purpose. And the person in charge of it all has a face and a name and is not above the law if those enforcing the law are willing to do what needs to be done in the name of accountability.

The world's richest man over the past 120 days has made a sport of destroying the lives of the most vulnerable people on the planet. Children's bodies are failing and there are holes in their tummies where there was once food thanks to Elon Musk. Musk's is a dark story of a man who has gleefully created as much pain and agony and death as he could. He was in deed efficient with his evil DOGE project, maximizing the darkness one human can bring into the world in such a short time.

Americans can't look away from this. There can be no "looking toward the future." There can be no "focusing on the present." If we are to climb out of this pit of demons, Musk must be held fully accountable for his unconscionable actions. If Democrats choose not to take this path, there is no coming back. The doomers among us will be vindicated.
